Hitre informacije: Bison once roamed the continent by the millions, and just 300 remained by the late 1800s. Elk Island is where those last survivors were brought to rebuild, making it one of the most important wildlife conservation sites on the planet.
Poudarki: The park's unassuming lakes hide a secret: paddle across Astotin Lake at dawn and you'll see bison silhouettes wading through the mist like ghosts from the Pleistocene. More than 600 free-roaming bison live here, descendants of the very animals that saved the species from extinction.
