Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland
Najboljši čas za obisk
Arrive before 10 AM to catch the morning eruption of the Lady Knox Geyser and avoid crowds. Clear winter days offer the best color contrast because the air is clearer and the steam is more visible.
Nasveti za proračun
Adult admission is about 45 NZD, but you can save by purchasing a combo ticket with nearby parks like Hell's Gate. Bring your own water and snacks as the cafe at the entrance is pricier than average.

O znamenitosti
Hitre informacije: Formed 160,000 years ago by a series of volcanic eruptions, this geothermal area releases more than 20 tons of sulfur vapor into the air every day. Its famous Chardonnay pool, emerald green in color, owes its appearance to arsenic and other minerals, not the grape variety as the name suggests.
Poudarki: The Artist's Palette changes colors several times a year depending on bacteria and minerals, creating shades from lemon yellow to dark orange that look as if someone spilled paint on the ground. The Lady Knox Geyser erupts daily at exactly 10:15 AM, reaching heights of 10 to 20 meters, but only because staff activate it with soap, a traditional trick over a hundred years old.
Notranji nasveti
- Wear sneakers or closed-toe shoes; the trails are slippery from steam and sulfur deposits.
- The best photos of the emerald pool are taken between 11 AM and 1 PM when the sun hits the water directly.
- Skip the Artist's Palette if you are short on time, but do not miss the Devil's Bath, which is fluorescent green without any filter.
- Visiting on weekdays during the off-season (May to October) will help you avoid the biggest crowds.
