Hitre informacije: Surviving Genghis Khan's destruction of Bukhara in 1220, the 45.6-meter Kalyan Minaret was so admired by the conqueror that he ordered it spared. The entire complex can hold over 12,000 worshippers at once and took nearly 200 years of continuous construction across different dynasties to complete.

Poudarki: Look closely at the base of the towering minaret and you'll notice 14 distinct bands of brickwork, each with different geometric patterns that spiral upward. A local legend claims that Genghis Khan was so struck by this sight as it pierced through the smoke of his burning city that he bowed three times before ordering his army to leave it standing.
