Snabba fakta: Tre aborigenska systrar förvandlades till sten av en trollkarl för att skydda dem, enligt lokal legend. Sandstensformationerna reser sig över 900 meter över havet och ändrar färg under dagen allteftersom solljuset faller på dem.
Höjdpunkter: På vintern möter dalens kalla luft den varma ytluften och bildar ett hav av moln som fyller hela ravinen, vilket får topparna att se ut som flytande öar. Färgerna förändras dramatiskt: från intensiv orange i gryningen till en gråblå ton på eftermiddagen, vilket skapar en annorlunda föreställning varje timme.
Insidertips
- Bring a jacket even in summer: the wind at the top of the cliff is strong and the wind chill factor drops drastically.
- Echo Point lookout is free and offers the classic view, but Lady Darley lookout is less crowded and equally beautiful.
- Avoid weekends and holidays between 11am and 2pm, when the tour buses arrive in large numbers.
- Bring binoculars to spot crimson rosellas and other native birds flying among the rock formations.
