It is best to arrive shortly after opening in the morning, when the interior is quiet and you can enjoy the tour without crowds. Avoid the Thursday and Sunday market days, when the whole town is packed with tourists.
Budgettips
The entrance fee is around 25 quetzals (approximately 80 CZK), which is a very reasonable price given the scope of the collection. If you visit the nearby Santo Tomás church and the museum on the same day, arrange a possible discount directly at the ticket office.

Snabba fakta: Detta museum ligger i en byggnad från 1500-talet som ursprungligen tjänade som kloster för dominikanermunkar. Här hittar du bland annat en samling mayastelor, keramik och heliga föremål som används vid ceremonier i den närliggande kyrkan Santo Tomás.
Höjdpunkter: Museets största skatt är den ursprungliga samlingen av förspanska stelor och rituella kärl som avslöjar k'iche'folkets vardagsliv långt före spanjorernas ankomst. Värdefulla är också trämaskerna från traditionella danser som fortfarande dansas i regionen, och var och en bär namnet och berättelsen om en specifik figur från mayamytologin.

- Bring a small flashlight with you; some exhibits are placed in darker corners and the details on the stelae only stand out with additional lighting.
- You will take the best photos in the monastery garden, where there is daylight and the stelae stand outside against the green facade.
- Ask the staff about the stories behind the masks; many of them are still used during festivals and have their own history that you will not find in the captions.
- Combine your visit with a tour of the nearby Santo Tomás church, whose ritual practices are closely related to the exhibits in the museum.
