Snabba fakta: Fyra massiva stenvalv reser sig 11 meter höga, uthuggna i rosa granit som fraktats 40 kilometer bort. Monumentet firar slaget vid Junín 1824, en av de sista striderna i Perus självständighetskrig mot Spanien.

- Come around 5 PM to catch the sunset light hitting the granite blocks and turning them a deep orange.
- Bring small coins to buy anticuchos (grilled beef heart skewers) from the vendors who set up nearby in the evening.
- Skip going inside the archway itself during midday the sun is harsh and the shadows offer no relief.
- Combine this with a walk through the nearby Plaza de Armas, just 5 minutes on foot.
