Mest populära attraktioner i Constanţa, Romania

To the question "What to do in Constanța, Romania?" one can briefly answer: start with a walk to the Constanța Casino from the late 19th century, which stands by the sea, empty but breathtaking. Then head to Ovidiu Square, where a 3-meter-tall Ovidius stands on a piece of stone. Finish with the Roman Mosaics Building, a 4th-century floor mosaic underground.

Constanța Casino

This is an Art Nouveau pearl on the Black Sea coast, considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Europe. Step inside and feel the spirit of history between the crumbling walls.

Roman Mosaics Building

2. Roman Mosaics Building

3.9 (245)

The largest surviving Roman mosaic floor in Europe awaits you. Step back 2000 years and walk along ancient patterns that have been preserved almost perfectly.

Ovidiu Square

3. Ovidiu Square

Here you can feel 2000 years of history on a single square. You look over the sea from a poet's shoulder and feel how the spirit of antiquity blends into modern city life.

Great Mahmudiye Mosque

4. Great Mahmudiye Mosque

Historiskt landmärkeTuristattraktionMosqueHistorisk platsGudstjänstlokal

The only place in Romania where you can admire Ottoman art and climb 140 stairs with a view of the Black Sea. Ceramic tile details and the silence in the prayer hall take you straight to Istanbul.

Snabba fakta: This 36-meter-tall mosque was built by King Carol I in 1910 for Romania's Muslim community. From the tower, you get a view of the entire Constanța Old Town and the Black Sea.

Höjdpunkter: When standing inside the mosque at noon, sunlight falls through 24 colorful stained glass windows precisely onto the prayer niche. The ceramic tile patterns echo those of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul, as they were made by the same craftsmen.

Constanța Archaeological Park

5. Constanța Archaeological Park

4.6 (47)
Historiskt landmärkeHistorisk platsIntressant platsEtablering

Steps on antiquity: walk directly over 2000 year old Roman mosaics. The open air museum offers experiences where history unfolds under your feet right where it once happened.

Snabba fakta: The Roman mosaics, covering thousands of square meters, were only discovered in 1959 in the center of present-day Constanța. The park offers a rare opportunity to walk directly over more than 3,000 years of history, where layers of Roman, Greek, and Byzantine civilizations are visible exactly where they once stood.

Höjdpunkter: The most breathtaking sight is the giant mosaic floor that once belonged to a wealthy Roman trade city called Tomis. Walking along the glass walkway, you see every mosaic tile beneath you, preserved for nearly 2,000 years thanks to being buried under the future city.

Mamaia Beach

6. Mamaia Beach

Imagine an endless sandy beach where velvet soft sand caresses your toes. Here you spend days under the blue sea and golden sun.

The Dolphinarium

7. The Dolphinarium

MuseumZooTuristattraktionIntressant platsEtablering

Take part in a fun and powerful dolphin show that makes your heart beat faster. Dolphins jump, sing and paint before your eyes.

The Aquarium of Constanța

8. The Aquarium of Constanța

Dive into the secrets of the Black Sea without getting your feet wet. You will see dozens of wonderful fish, seahorses and even sharks.

Snabba fakta: Over 70 different species of fish from both the Black Sea and the Danube River live here. The largest tank holds 50,000 liters of water and offers views of both local and exotic marine life.

Höjdpunkter: The oldest aquarium in Eastern Europe hides a secret tunnel that leads directly to the Black Sea shore. If you manage to catch feeding time, you will see an octopus grabbing food with its tentacles.

Honestly Constanta was way more chill than I expected. Black Sea water was warm in August but the beach got packed fast. Good for 2 days max.

Weather was perfect in late September. Fewer crowds and everything still open. Wish they kept the fountains running longer though.

The old town is charming but half the restaurants near the casino are tourist traps. Found amazing grilled fish 10 min walk inland near the mosque.

ACTIONABLE TIP: Rent a bike from the kiosks near the port, cheap and way faster than walking between the casino and the archaeological park.

Mamaia strip was overwhelming. Too many clubs and overpriced drinks. Enjoyed the aquarium and the ancient mosaic way more than I thought I would.
