Snabba fakta: Klostrets väggar bevarar fortfarande 900 fragment av ursprungliga väggmålningar från 1800-talet, inklusive den sällsynta freskotekniken som kombinerar olja och tempera. De två huvudklockorna väger 520 kg respektive 1 200 kg och ringer fortfarande varje morgon klockan 06.00.
Höjdpunkter: Bakom högaltaret döljer sig ett litet underjordiskt kapell som endast är tillgängligt genom en hemlig dörr bakom ikonostasen. Kapellets väggar är täckta med tusentals mosaikbitar gjorda för hand av munkar som överlevde andra världskriget; inte en enda mosaikbit är identisk.

- Bring a scarf or shawl as women are required to cover their heads when entering the main church.
- The best photo spot is at the northeast corner of the garden, where the golden dome reflects in a small pond in the afternoon.
- Come on Sunday at 09.00 to hear the monks' choir live with no extra charge.
- Ignore the souvenir kiosks at the main entrance. Buy monastery-made honey directly at the small shop next to the monastery office. It is 40% cheaper.
