Höjdpunkter: Climbing the ratlines puts you within arm's reach of the rigging, three masts towering above while gulls wheel and the wind whistles through the shrouds. Inside the low galley the smell of warm stew and wood smoke meets brass fittings, volunteers sometimes sound the ship's bell to summon visitors for a close-up of the original binnacle.

• Wear sturdy, non-slip shoes and warm layers because decks can be wet and chilly.
• Climb carefully, watch low beams and steep companionways; not suitable for people with limited mobility.
• Best photos come from the stern and from the quayside opposite the Riverside Museum for reflections and the Glasgow skyline.
