Snabba fakta: Fler än 20 villor i Liberty-stil kantrar strandkanten, byggda mellan 1909 och 1920-talet av Palermos elit som sommarbostäder. Arkitekter som Ernesto Basile blandade blommiga motiv, smidesdetaljer och pastellfasader som lyser olika vid varje timme av dagsljuset.
Höjdpunkter: Villa Pojero har fortfarande sin ursprungliga keramikugn inomhus, dekorerad med handmålade kakelplattor som föreställer sicilianska citronlundar. Stig ut på terrassen vid stranden på Villa Florio och du står där Palermos rikaste familjer en gång höll champagnedränkta fester med utsikt över Mondellobukten.

- Start at Piazza Valdesi and follow the seafront promenade southward to catch every villa in sequence.
- Bring a camera with a good zoom lens to capture the wrought-iron and ceramic details that are hard to see from street level.
- Skip midday in summer when the sun washes out the colors and the beach is packed. Early morning or late afternoon are far better.
- Pair your walk with an aperitivo at one of the wooden kiosks on Mondello beach for a view of the villas across the water.
