Visit Mercado de Abastos
Bästa tid att besöka
It is best to come early in the morning, between 8:00 and 10:00, when the stalls are fully stocked and the atmosphere is most lively. Avoid Saturday noon, when lines at popular stands can stretch to over a dozen minutes.
Budgettips
Entry to the market is free, you only pay for what you buy. In the afternoon hours, many vendors lower their prices by up to 30% to clear out their stock before closing.

Insidertips
- Bring a reusable bag with you, because vendors do not offer free plastic bags, and the paid ones cost 1 euro.
- The best photos can be taken from the mezzanine, where you can see the entire hall and the play of light on the colorful stalls.
- Skip the souvenir stalls at the main entrance and head straight to the cheese stands at the back of the hall, where the real tasting takes place.
- On weekdays before noon, the market is much quieter, which makes it easier to talk with vendors and bargain for larger purchases.
