Snabba fakta: Home to over 55,000 artworks including textiles, wallpapers, and fine art, the collection spans everything from 15th-century prints to contemporary sculpture. The building's beautiful Art Gallery cafe serves excellent food while overlooking a croquet lawn and parkland.
Höjdpunkter: A glass-walled extension literally brings the park inside: the gallery's distinctive wing wraps around a 200-year-old cedar tree, making it part of the building. On sunny days, the entire space floods with green light filtered through the tree's canopy onto the artworks below.

- Head to the back of the gallery first on busy days: the main hall draws crowds but the rear galleries are often nearly empty.
- The walled garden and orchard behind the gallery are lovely for a peaceful picnic away from the cafe queue.
- Sundays are noticeably busier with families, so aim for Tuesday through Friday for a calmer visit.
- Don't skip the textile collection: it's one of the best in Britain and housed in a stunning light-filled gallery.
