About

Quick facts: Stretching 8 kilometers in length, the beach sand is so fine that walking on it feels like velvet under your feet. There is a rare sand dust here that squeaks and whistles with every step.

Highlights: Locals know that early in the morning, before the sun rises over the Black Sea, you can find small pieces of amber on the beach that the night tide has washed ashore. Among the local fishermen, this is called searching for "morning tears," and it is one of the few places in the world where amber is so easily accessible.

Insider tips

  • The best photos come in the morning sun, when the sand and sea reflect golden light.
  • Avoid the main central part, Mamaia Nord, where the crowds are densest and prices are highest.
  • Try the local seafood stew, sold only in wooden stalls located on the beaches.
  • Around 9 PM it is worth going to the pier, where locals organize impromptu dance nights.
