Around 1,000 everyday objects survive here, from copper kettles and wooden chests to the delicate linens that once traveled with brides to their new homes.

• Ask at the entrance whether a weaving demo is scheduled, volunteers usually fire up the loom for small groups.
• Shoot the embroidered chests from the upper gallery in late morning, that is when the window light is softest.
• Visit in shoulder season rather than high summer, the narrow stone rooms heat up fast in July.
• Wear grippy flat shoes, the cobbled lane up to the door is steep and uneven.
