- Head to the small plaza on the north side of the arch for the classic postcard angle with the volcano, rather than standing directly beneath it.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes since the surrounding streets use original volcanic cobblestones that get slippery when damp.
- Morning visits between 6 and 8 a.m. reward you with soft light and almost no other people on the street.
- Pair your visit with a walk down the pedestrian street beyond the arch toward the old convent ruins for extra photo opportunities.
