حقائق سريعة: لم يرتفع سوى حوالي 44 مترًا من الحجر الرملي الأحمر نحو الـ 86 المخطط لها، وتوقف البناء إلى الأبد في اليوم الذي توفي فيه السلطان الذي أمر به عام 1199. كانت قاعة الصلاة التي يواجهها تتسع لـ 20,000 مصلٍّ، ولا يزال نحو 200 عمود ملقى في المكان الذي أسقطها فيه زلزال 1755.
النقاط البارزة: مرّر أصابعك على التيجان المنحوتة وستتلمس أقواسًا على شكل حدوة حصان وأنماطًا هندسية ما زالت حادة الوضوح بعد أكثر من 800 صيف مغربي. نحو 200 جذع عمود ملقاة في المكان نفسه الذي قذفها إليه الزلزال، لذا تبدو الساحة بأكملها وكأنها صورة فوتوغرافية تجمّدت في منتصف الكارثة.

- Show up for the 8 am opening to shoot the esplanade before tour groups arrive.
- Fix on the long reflecting pool between the tower and the river for a clean mirrored silhouette.
- Wear a hat and sunscreen, the exposed paving stones offer no shade even in the morning.
- Add in the Mausoleum of Mohammed V next door to catch the Royal Guard in full dress uniform.
