Acerca de

Datos rápidos: This reserve spans 350 hectares of wetlands and woodlands along the Rio de la Plata coastline, serving as a critical refuge for over 300 bird species. Hiking trails weave through marshes where capybaras and coypus roam freely, giving city dwellers a raw wilderness experience just 20 minutes from downtown Buenos Aires.

Destacados: At dawn, the marshes glow amber as roseate spoonbills and black-crowned night herons wade silently through the shallows. The trail system follows old cattle paths used by gauchos in the 1800s, and you can still spot remnants of their stone corrals half-swallowed by the reeds.

Consejos de expertos

  • Wear closed-toe waterproof shoes or rubber boots, as sections of the trail flood after rain and mud gets thick quickly.
  • Bring binoculars even cheap ones, the birding is exceptional along the Laguna de los Patos boardwalk.
  • Skip the midday heat May through August offers the most comfortable hiking conditions with fewer mosquitoes.
  • Arrive right when gates open at 8 AM to have the main laguna viewpoint almost entirely to yourself.
