Datos rápidos: La custodian ininterrumpidamente desde 1943 y cada hora se realiza el solemne cambio de guardia al son de tambores. El monumento de mármol pesa 45 toneladas y se alza en el lugar donde durante la guerra civil fueron asesinadas más de 300 personas que intentaban encontrar refugio cerca de la catedral italiana.
Destacados: En 2013, los habitantes locales colocaron anónimamente durante la noche 22 velas al pie del monumento como símbolo de esperanza, y los guardias las dejaron arder hasta la mañana. Aún hoy, cada viernes se reúnen junto al monumento las madres de los combatientes caídos y cantan canciones que se transmiten de generación en generación.

- Bring a small gift or a flower. Locals appreciate it and it can open the door to authentic storytelling from the guards.
- Photographing the guard up close is allowed, but do not use flash and do not stand directly in front of them during the changing of the guard.
- Wear long trousers and a long-sleeved shirt as a sign of respect, even if it is 40 degrees on the street.
- I recommend arriving 10 minutes before the start of the hour to see the entire changing ceremony from the beginning.
