SANParks charges an entrance fee for the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve; check the SANParks website for current rates and nationality pricing. Save money by walking to the lighthouse instead of buying the funicular ticket, and consider a SANParks Wild Card if visiting multiple parks.

Acerca de

Datos rápidos: Steep cliffs tumble into pounding surf where penguins and gannets nest among windswept fynbos, creating vivid wildlife encounters. A short funicular ride lifts you to a dramatic viewpoint with plaques that recount notorious shipwrecks and highlight how powerful local currents can be.

Destacados: There’s an old stone lighthouse up on the headland that was built in 1859 and often vanished in fog, so after several wrecks a lower beacon was added in 1919 to actually cut through the mist. If you stand close you can taste salt and crushed fynbos on the wind, hear waves smash and send spray 30 meters high, and watch dassies and Cape sugarbirds hop along the crag like they’re running the place.

Consejos de expertos

  • Wear windproof layers, sun protection and sturdy shoes, paths are exposed and can be slippery.
  • Head to the old lighthouse viewpoint around golden hour for dramatic light and fewer people.
  • Keep a safe distance from baboons, secure backpacks and never feed wildlife to avoid aggressive behavior.
  • Arrive early or visit midweek to avoid coach-bus crowds; park at the Cape Point lot to start the best trails.
