Mejor época para visitar

Visit in late afternoon (4-7pm) when the sun lights up the white houses of Altea's old town across the bay. September and June offer warm water with far fewer people than July and August.

Consejos para el presupuesto

The beach is completely free with no entry fee. Bring your own umbrella and snacks, as the nearest chiringuito (beach bar) charges premium prices for basic sandwiches and drinks.

Acerca de

Datos rápidos: This pebbly shoreline sits right where the Sierra de Bernia mountains tumble into the Mediterranean, creating a dramatic contrast of grey stones against turquoise water. Unlike the sandy beaches nearby, the smooth pebbles here make the water crystal clear with no sediment stirring up, even on windy days.

Destacados: At the western end of the beach, a natural spring seeps through the rocks, creating a small freshwater pool that mixes with the sea at high tide. Locals know to scoop handfuls of the smooth cap negret pebbles, which were historically used as ballast for trading ships heading to North Africa.

Consejos de expertos

  • Arrive by 10am in summer to claim a spot near the freshwater spring at the western end, the most interesting swimming area.
  • Wear water shoes or aqua socks: the smooth pebbles can be surprisingly uncomfortable to walk on, especially getting in and out of the water.
  • Park at the free lot near the sports port (Puerto Deportivo) and walk 200 meters east along the promenade instead of fighting for the paid spots right by the beach.
  • Bring a pair of binoculars: the clear water makes it easy to spot fish, and you might catch sight of peregrine falcons diving from the cliffs above.
