Went in March and the dust storms were brutal. Could barely see across the street some days. If you're sensitive to that, definitely check air quality before booking. The food kept me going though.
Skip the tourist noodle shops near the train station. Walk to the neighborhoods across the river, old men lining up outside a tiny shop is the sign you found the real deal. Usually under 15 yuan for a bowl.
Lanzhou surprised me. I expected a dusty transit city but the Yellow River running right through town makes it actually beautiful. Summer evenings along the riverwalk are hard to beat.
Flew in from Xi'an just for the noodles and honestly worth it. Went to a place called Malazifu recommended by my hostel and it blew my mind. City itself is fine for a day or two tops.
Spent 3 days here and honestly could've done 2. The beef noodles are incredible but you'll get tired of the same bowl after a few days. Zhongshan Bridge is nice at night though.
