クイックファクト: 毎年4月から12月までの毎週日曜日、マタデーロス地区はアルゼンチンで最も本格的なガウチョの市場へと変貌し、フォーク音楽や舞踊、手工芸品を目当てに約1万人の訪問者が集まります。その名はかつてこの地域を支配していた古い屠殺場に由来しており、銀細工師や織物職人が何世紀も前から受け継がれてきた技術を披露する中、焼きチョリパンや薪焼きエンパナーダの香りが漂います。
見どころ: 午後4時頃、メインの土のリングが鼓動のようなひづめの音で活気づきます。ガウチョたちがソルティーハという中世風の競技で、全速力で疾走しながら小さなリングを槍で刺し合います。砂埃と馬の汗の匂いを感じられるほど近くに立てば、90歳の老騎手と10代の若者が、どちらも伝統的なボンバーチャズボンとつば広帽を身につけて真剣勝負を繰り広げる姿が見られます。
