概要
クイックファクト: 赤みがかった金色の砂岩から完全に彫り出されたこの寺院の外壁には、60以上の舞う像が表情豊かなポーズで飾られています。寺院の名前は王家のつながりからではなく、夕暮れ時に蜂蜜色の輝きを与える「ラジャラニ」と呼ばれる地元の黄色がかった石に由来しています。
見どころ: ほとんどの寺院が神々や女神に壁を捧げるのとは異なり、ここの外壁パネルは「ナーヤカー」と呼ばれる天女が舞の最中、化粧をしているところ、あるいは足からとげを取っているところなどで占められています。これらの64の優雅な像はそれぞれ異なるポーズをとっており、寺院を11世紀のオーディシャの生活と美の凍りついた振り付けに変えています。
