クイックファクト: 古代王宮内に設けられたこの博物館は、神聖な都市ポロンナルワから出土した800点以上の遺物を収蔵している。展示室には石灰岩で作られた仏像や、スリランカで最も充実した中世シンハラ貨幣のコレクションの一つが収められている。
見どころ: ここにヒンドゥー寺院の遺跡から無傷で発見された、最も印象的な青銅製の舞踏神シヴァ像の一つがあることを知る者は少ない。手の gestures に彫られた細部と、顔の穏やかな表情は今もなお生き生きとしており、宇宙の踊りがほんの一瞬前に止まったかのようである。

- Ask the caretaker to turn on the interior lights in the darkest halls: the details of the stone carvings become spectacular.
- Do not miss the small courtyard at the back of the museum, where tombstones and stelae are displayed outdoors, little visited by tourists.

- At the end of the visit, go up to the palace terrace: the view over the ruins of the royal city is breathtaking and almost no one goes up there.
