Korte feiten: Negen verschillende galerijen verspreid over twee verdiepingen tonen 7.000 jaar Omaanse geschiedenis, van prehistorisch gereedschap tot moderne maritieme artefacten. Meer dan 800 objecten zijn te zien, waaronder een gigantische wierookbrander gebruikt in het paleis van de sultan en een 16e-eeuws Portugees kanon dat uit zee is geborgen.
Hoogtepunten: Het museum herbergt het zwaard van Imam Faisal bin Turki, een ceremonieel wapen bezet met diamanten en goud dat nog steeds de vage geur van wierook draagt van eeuwenlang gebruik. Een enorme 3D-holografische projectie van de oude wierookhandelsroutes brengt de woestijnkaravanen tot leven, zodat u virtuele kamelen de Rub al Khali kunt zien oversteken zonder een enkel woord op het scherm.
