Korte feiten: De scheepshellingen die al honderden jaren deel uitmaken van het landschap, werken nog steeds volgens traditionele methoden. Lokale ambachtslieden bouwen met de hand dhow-schepen zonder enige tekening, vertrouwend op kennis die van generatie op generatie wordt doorgegeven.
Hoogtepunten: In tegenstelling tot veel plaatsen in de wereld worden hier schepen gebouwd zonder metalen frame, alleen met houten planken die met touwen zijn verbonden. Het proces duurt 9 maanden tot 2 jaar en elk schip kan tot 200 ton vracht vervoeren, hoewel er geen enkele spijker in zit.

- Dress comfortably, but avoid overly short clothing to show respect for the local craftsmen. The best viewpoint is from the pier on the western side, especially during sunset. Do not hesitate to politely ask the craftsmen to take photos, but do not disturb them while they are working. The bench in the shade of olive trees on the shore is a great spot to observe the work without getting in the way.
