Korte feiten: Drie verdiepingen met galerijen herbergen alles van een 10.000 jaar oud elandskelet tot een echte mummie genaamd Nesyamun. Het museum is gevestigd in een imposant 19e-eeuws voormalig mechanisch instituut met een prachtige centrale zaal met glazen dak.
Hoogtepunten: De Leeds Tiger, een enorme opgezette Bengaalse tijger die ooit in een reizend circus optrad voordat hij aan het museum werd geschonken, begroet je bij de ingang met een intense bevroren brul. Om de hoek toont de Life's Journey-galerij de mummie Nesyamun, wiens 3.000 jaar oude gezicht in 2020 werd gescand met een CT-scan, waaruit bleek dat hij leed aan ernstige tandabcessen en tandvleesontsteking.
Insidertips
- Grab a coffee at the museum cafe on the ground floor, the glass ceiling makes it one of the prettiest spots in the building.
- The Leeds Tiger looks best from slightly below, crouch down to meet his eye level for a dramatic photo.
