Korte feiten: Spread across 700 acres, this sprawling green space was gifted to the city in 1872 by a wealthy wool merchant. Its centerpiece is the 30-acre Waterloo Lake, created by damming a stream and named after the famous battle.
Hoogtepunten: Hidden within the park's woodlands are the ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, where monks once farmed the very land you walk on.
