Korte feiten: Het International Bomber Command Centre ligt op een terrein dat ooit deel uitmaakte van RAF Canwick Hill, een radarstation tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. De indrukwekkende 31 meter hoge Memorial Spire is perfect uitgelijnd om direct naar de startbaan van het nabijgelegen RAF Scampton te wijzen, waar het beroemde Dambusters squadron was gestationeerd.
Hoogtepunten: Ga in het midden van de gedenkmuur staan en je ziet de namen van 57.861 gevallen vliegeniers van het Gemenebest in de steen gegraveerd. Dat aantal staat gelijk aan het totale aantal slachtoffers van Bomber Command. De schaduw van de spire beweegt gedurende de dag over de namen, bewust ontworpen zodat elke naam op een bepaald moment door zowel duisternis als licht wordt geraakt.
