Korte feiten: Hoog boven de turquoise haven beneden uit torenen, verdedigde dit 16e-eeuwse fort ooit Portofino tegen piratenaanvallen en werd later een toevluchtsoord voor de Engelse adel. De terrrastuinen staan in volle bloei met blauweregen, bougainville en citroenbomen en bieden enkele van de meest gefotografeerde uitzichten aan de Italiaanse Rivièra.
Hoogtepunten: Je kunt op dezelfde stenen vestingmuren staan waar de Britse dichter Lord Byron en schrijfster Mary Shelley middagen doorbrachten tijdens hun reizen door Italië in de jaren 1820. In de privétuin van het kasteel ligt een eeuwenoude waterput die regenwater opvangt, nog steeds functioneel en nu omringd door een olijfboomgaard die meer dan 400 jaar geleden is aangeplant.
