Late morning on a weekday is ideal, when natural light floods the main hall through the glass canopy and crowds are thinner than at rush hour.

Access to the station and all its viewing areas is completely free. If you want a proper look at the vaulted ceiling, skip the paid platform tickets and just stand on the main concourse mezzanine instead.

Höjdpunkter: Stationen ligger på tre staplade nivåer som sjunker 20 meter under gatunivån, med plattformarna dolda under den storslagna huvudhallen. Ett kungligt dekret från 1909 gjorde det olagligt att bygga något tillräckligt högt för att blockera utsikten över tåghallen, vilket är anledningen till att stadens silhuett runt stationen fortfarande är förvånansvärt öppen idag.

- Head to the mezzanine level above the main hall for the classic postcard-angle shot of the dome and clock.
- Walk the full length of the train shed to the rear exit; the rear facade is quieter and equally stunning.
- Wrap up warm in winter, the open platforms stay drafty even though the concourse is heated.
- Skip the small museum inside and instead spend time on the elevated walkway outside the front entrance for a full view of the facade.
