Snabba fakta: Kullen Sahat Tepe är en av Plovdivs sju historiska kullar, som var och en har sina egna beundrare bland lokalbefolkningen. Ett 1800-talsklocktorn kröner denna 15 meter höga höjd och har vakat över stadens vidsträckta tak sedan 1884.

Höjdpunkter: På toppen finner du en väderbiten stenklocka vars enda visare fortfarande tickar i en svindlande moturs rotation, en egenhet som förbryllar förstagångsbesökare och gläder stammisar. Denna 130 år gamla mekanism kräver handuppdragning var 48:e timme, en ritual som utförts av samma familj av klockvårdare i tre generationer.

Insidertips

• Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, the gravel path gets slippery after rain and there are no railings near the summit.
• The best photo spot is from the bench halfway up, it frames the clock tower against the Rhodope Mountains perfectly.
• Arrive before 10 AM on weekends to have the hill almost entirely to yourself before local families arrive.
• Skip the paved road approach on the north side, the southern trail through the pine grove is shadier and far more scenic.
