Om

Snabba fakta: At the center of the garden hides a bamboo avenue where bamboo arches rise 15 meters high, creating a green tunnel that changes color throughout the day. Local artists often come to draw this very part of the garden because the light that breaks through the bamboo creates unreal shadows.

Höjdpunkter: Once the stronghold of the legendary pirate Henry Morgan, today it is the oldest preserved English stone fort on Jamaica. Its thick walls of coral stone still guard 22 cannons that once defended the entrance to Kingston harbor.

Insidertips

  • Bring closed-toe shoes because the coral stone floor can be sharp and uneven.
  • The best cannon photos are taken in the early afternoon when the light casts long shadows through the gun ports.
  • Skip the souvenir shop at the entrance and instead have coconut water from the vendor across from the fortress.
  • Arrive exactly at 9am before the heat sets in and the cruise groups fill the space.
