Snabba fakta: Berberas lagun är en viktig rastplats för flyttfåglar som följer den östafrikanska flyttvägen, årligen vilar tiotusentals individer här. Salthalten i lagunen är nästan dubbelt så hög som i öppna havet, vilket skapar ett unikt ekosystem med rosa saltälskande mikroorganismer.
Höjdpunkter: Vid vindstilla väder blir lagunens yta en perfekt spegel som reflekterar himlen med sådan skärpa att gränsen mellan vatten och luft försvinner. Vid solnedgången får vattnet en intensiv rosa-lila nyans på grund av små halofila bakterier som oxiderar salt på grunt vatten.

- Wear flip-flops or water shoes. The bottom is covered in sharp shells, and you won't get far barefoot.
- The best photos are taken from the southern shore of the lagoon, where the sky reflection is most complete due to less ripple.
- Come on a weekday. On weekends, local families come here, and the birds stay farther from the shore.
- Bring a polarizing filter for your camera. It removes glare from the salt water and makes the pink hue more vivid.
