The best time is from 6 to 9 in the morning, when elephants come near the river and the weather remains cool. The months from December to March are most favorable when wildlife is easier to spot.

For foreign tourists, the entry fee is around 3000-4000 rupees and the jeep safari has to be hired separately. You can save a little with online booking, and sharing a jeep with a local guide is more affordable.

Snabba fakta: Detta reservat sträcker sig över 32 000 hektar och över 500 elefanter vandrar fritt här. Över 200 fågelarter finns här, däribland den lankesiska påfågeln och örnar.
Höjdpunkter: Detta är en av de få platser där du kan se elefanter på nära håll utan rädsla för tigrar eller leoparder. På morgonen när dimman lättar syns elefantflockar som badar vid flodstranden, en helt oförglömlig syn.

- Wear khaki or green colored clothes and avoid bright colors so as not to distract the animals.
- Book an open-top jeep for the safari; photography is difficult in a closed jeep.
- Animals are rarely seen between 12 pm and 3 pm, so choose morning or evening time.
- Be sure to carry binoculars and a water bottle with you; water is not available inside the park.
