Visit on a weekday morning right after it opens, around 9 AM, to avoid the tour groups that pack in by midday. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable walking weather up the steep cobblestone paths.

حقائق سريعة: تضم المجموعة أكثر من 200 أيقونة و100 قطعة طقسية، كثير منها من صنع رسام القرن السادس عشر أونوفري وابنه نيكولا. مبنى الكنيسة نفسه، رقاد السيدة مريم، يعود إلى عام 1797 وقد بُني داخل أسوار قلعة بيرات.

النقاط البارزة: أيقونات أونوفري تخفي سراً في طلائها: فقد مزج بياض البيض مع صبغة حمراء نادرة مصنوعة من الحجر الأرمني المسحوق، وهذا المزيج ينتج أحمر لا يزال يتوهج بثراء بعد ما يقرب من 500 عام. انظر عن كثب إلى لوحته "العشاء الأخير" وستبدو الوجوه وكأنها تتحرك أثناء تنقلك، وهي تقنية لم يستطع العلماء المعاصرون تكرارها بالكامل.

Wear sturdy walking shoes, the approach is a steep cobblestone climb through the castle district with no flat shortcuts.
Ask the staff to flip on the lights over the iconostasis; the natural light barely reaches the upper panels.
Photography is allowed but flash is not, bring a fast lens or a phone with good low-light mode for the dark interior.
Pair your visit with the Ethnographic Museum nearby and catch both on the same walk up the hill.
