Getting around

By public transport

Venice is remarkably well served by public transport and its historic centre is almost entirely walkable, so your three days require no car at all. On Days 1 and 3, walking covers St Mark's Square, the Basilica, Doge's Palace, Rialto Bridge, and Bridge of Sighs; use the vaporetto Line 1 along the Grand Canal for longer hops between San Polo, Accademia, and Peggy Guggenheim, and Line 2 for quicker crossings. For Murano, take vaporetto Line 3 or 4 from Fondamenta Nove, about 20 minutes each way. The ACTV vaporetto pass (48 or 72 hours) covers all lagoon routes. For door-to-door service, water taxis cost roughly 15 euros for short trips, and the ItTaxi or TaxiVenezia apps can book one. A rental car would only complicate matters on a car-free island.
