Rychlá fakta: Tato členitá žulová věž, tyčící se 3 405 metrů nad patagonskou stepí, byla poprvé zdolána až v roce 1952 francouzskou expedicí. Tehuelčtí indiáni ji nazývali Chaltén, což znamená "kouřící hora", protože vrchol často obtáčejí mraky připomínající kouř z ohně.
Zajímavosti: Při východu slunce zachytí východní stěna první paprsky a asi na 15 minut se rozzáří ohnivě oranžovočerveně, což místní nazývají "Fitz Roy en Fuego". Tento krátký okamžik nastává jen asi 60 dní v roce, kdy spolupracují mraky, což z něj činí jednu z nejvzácnějších světelných show na planetě.
