O atrakcí
Rychlá fakta: At 2,962 meters, it's Germany's highest point where you can stand without a climbing rope. The summit straddles the German-Austrian border, meaning you can literally have one foot in each country at the same time.
Zajímavosti: The summit houses one of Germany's highest breweries, where the beer ingredients have to be hauled up by cable car and the water comes from melted glacial ice. On a clear day you can see four countries from the panoramic terrace, spotting peaks across Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.
Insider tipy
- Bring sunglasses and sunscreen even in winter, the UV reflection off snow is intense at this altitude.
- Skip the tourist-packed summit restaurant and walk 10 minutes down to Sonnalpin for better prices and equally stunning glacier views.
- Arrive before 9 AM to catch the first cable car and have the summit nearly to yourself before the tour buses arrive.
- Wear sturdy shoes and layers, the temperature can swing from 25°C in the valley to near freezing at the top.
