Nejlepší čas k návštěvě

Mid-morning on a weekday (Sunday through Wednesday) around 9-10 AM, right when the doors open. You'll beat the school groups and have the Bronze Age galleries nearly to yourself.

Tipy pro rozpočet

Entry costs about 500,000 Iranian rials (roughly $1-2 USD), one of the cheapest major museums in the world. No free days are offered, but the combined ticket covering both the main museum and the Islamic Era wing saves you about 20% versus buying separately.

O atrakcí

Rychlá fakta: Over 300,000 objects fill its halls, spanning from the Paleolithic era to the Islamic period. The surviving brick entrance iwan alone measures 12 meters high and is adorned with some of the finest examples of early 20th-century Persian tilework.

Zajímavosti: You can touch a 9,000-year-old clay figurine from the very first villages of the Iranian plateau during the guided tour, an experience most museums forbid. The Salt Man, a naturally mummified miner from over 1,600 years ago, stares back at you with open eyes and a flowing white beard as if he just sat down to rest.

Insider tipy

  • Start with the Pre-Islamic wing (left side) before the crowds pour in around 11 AM, then cross to the Islamic Era building after lunch.
  • The Salt Man exhibit is in a dimly lit room on the ground floor of the main building, easy to miss if you follow the standard route clockwise.
  • Photography without flash is allowed, but the lighting is notoriously low in the pottery halls, so bring a camera with good low-light performance.
  • Skip the small gift shop near the exit, it sells overpriced replicas you can find for half the price at the nearby bazaar.
