Rychlá fakta: Založeno řeckými kolonisty v roce 734 před naším letopočtem, toto bylo skutečně úplně první řecké osídlení na celém ostrově Sicílie. Město bylo zcela zničeno Dionysiem I. Syrakuským v roce 403 před naším letopočtem a nikdy nebylo obnoveno, takže ruiny zůstaly zmrazené v čase přesně tak, jak byly opuštěny.
Zajímavosti: Procházejte základy obytné čtvrti z 5. století před naším letopočtem, kde stále můžete sledovat obrysy jednotlivých místností, ulic a dokonce i starověkého odvodňovacího systému. Skutečné kouzlo nastává na jaře, kdy mezi kamennými ruinami kvetou divoké květiny, v pozadí se dramaticky tyčí Etna a Jónské moře se tříští jen pár kroků odtud.
