Rychlá fakta: Název se ve svahilštině překládá jako „dům otroka", velmi kuriózní přezdívka pro tuto vesnici námořníků a obchodníků ze 14. století. Ruiny korálových domů a mešit se rozkládají pod starými baobaby, naproti zátoce, kde příliv dvakrát denně stoupá a klesá.
Zajímavosti: Uvnitř velké mešity zůstala modlitební nika vytesaná z korálu po sedmi staletích mořských větrů téměř neporušená. Kořeny baobabu svírají zdi jako obří prsty a rybáři dodnes říkají, že hrobový pilíř sloužil jako orientační bod pro pirogy.
