Rychlá fakta: Ve svislých stěnách z pískovce se uchovávají fosilie dinosaurů a zkamenělé stromy a mezi nálezy jsou kusy kostí staré více než 70 milionů let. Dva kilometry dlouhý zářez protíná suchý listnatý les, v němž žijí lemurové, endemičtí ptáci a plazi, které nenajdete nikde jinde na planetě.
Zajímavosti: Na dně kaňonu, kde se po dešti shromažďují bazény tyrkysové vody, si můžete zaplavat v přírodním bazénu pod skalami vysokými až 300 metrů. Paleontologové zde našli celá hnízda fosilizovaných vajec dinosaurů, takže při pěší túře se díváte na stejné vrstvy horniny, v nichž vědci po staletí hledali stopy pravěkého života.

- Wear sturdy hiking boots and long clothing, as the ground is rocky and dry shrubs easily scratch the skin.
- Bring at least three liters of water per person and a hat, as there is almost no shade on the trails.
- Take photos early in the morning or before sunset, when the red sand takes on a golden color and long shadows appear.
- Check your fuel reserve and tire condition in advance, since the road to the canyon goes through sandy shallows and stream beds.
