Bahia Palace (Palais de la Bahia)
Best time to visit
Early morning when gates open reduces crowds and gives soft light for photos. Late afternoon also cools down and avoids midday heat in summer.
Budget tips
Small entrance fee, usually under 100 MAD; no regular free days and most tourist passes do not include the palace, so bring cash and skip guided extras to save money.

About
Rychlá fakta: You can wander through roughly 150 rooms and step across patterned zellij tiles that catch the sun in dazzling mosaics. Lavish carved cedar ceilings, painted stucco, and snug riads create shifting pockets of light and shadow that make every turn unexpectedly photogenic.
Hlavní zajímavosti: Si Moussa rose from slavery to become grand vizier, then his son Bou Ahmed expanded the estate while enlisting more than 150 artisans to carve ceilings and lay intricate tilework. Wander into the main courtyard and you’ll smell orange blossom, hear the trickle of a long reflecting basin, and watch sunlight slice through latticework onto faded jewel-colored tiles.
Insider tips
- Arrive at opening to avoid large tour groups and catch the best light in the central courtyard.
- Wear comfortable shoes and modest clothing as floors are uneven and the site is still a working heritage area.
- Photography is allowed in most areas, aim for the riad rooms and the long painted ceilings for striking shots; ask staff before using a tripod.
- Combine the visit with a walk through the nearby souks and the Mellah to save taxi fares, and carry water during hot months.
