O atrakcí
Rychlá fakta: Pouštní vzduch zde dokonale zachoval přes 100 starověkých mumií, některé stále s původním bavlněným oblečením a spletenými vlasy z doby před 1 000 lety. Nejsou to mumie zabalené egyptským způsobem: sedí v poloze plodu s přitaženými koleny a čelem k východu slunce, přesně jak určovaly jejich kultury Wari a Ica-Nazca.
Zajímavosti: Uvidíte mumie s neporušenými dlouhými černými vlasy, kůží napnutou přes kosti a vyceněnými úsměvy vystavenými otevřenému nebi v hrobkách bez střech. Na rozdíl od muzejních exponátů za sklem si k těmto starověkým ostatkům můžete dojít úplně blízko a vidět pečlivě uložené hrobové dary vedle nich: keramické nádoby, potravinové obětiny a tkané textilie, které přežily celé tisíciletí.
Insider tipy
- Bring a bandana or face mask: the desert wind kicks up fine dust that gets everywhere, especially in the afternoon.
- The guided tour is worth the small extra fee: your guide will show you which tombs were looted versus intact ones and explain the burial positions.
- Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip, as you'll be walking on loose sand and uneven ground between tomb pits.
- Skip the midday visit from December to March when the sun is brutal and there's zero shade across the entire site.
