Rychlá fakta: Obsedantní sběratelská vášeň jednoho muže během čtyř desetiletí nashromáždila přes 6 000 předmětů od egyptských artefaktů po francouzské užité umění. Samotná budova je mistrovským dílem portugalské modernistické architektury 60. let 20. století, obepíná klidné zahradní nádvoří.
Zajímavosti: Gulbenkian osobně vybral každý předmět v tomto muzeu a jeho vkus směřoval spíše k dokonalosti než k trendům. Uvidíte jedinou místnost, kde se arménský iluminovaný rukopis ze 14. století nachází vedle skleněné vázy Lalique a obrazu od Rembrandta, vybraných čistě proto, že je sběratel miloval.
