Rychlá fakta: Více než 250 000 obětí genocidy je pohřbeno v 85 hromadných hrobech a každý rok je v zemi stále objevováno dalších 30 000 těl. Stěny památníku zobrazují tisíce fotografií obětí spolu s osobními věcmi, jako je oblečení a identifikační karty, které darovaly rodiny.
Zajímavosti: Dětský pokoj zasáhne nejsilněji: obří panely uvádějí 300 dětí jménem a ukazují oblíbené jídlo, poslední slova a příčinu smrti každého z nich. Uvidíte fotografii dvouletého dítěte, které milovalo banány a zemřelo na sečnou ránu mačetou do hlavy, což dává rozsahu ztráty hluboce osobní rozměr.

- The memorial's cafe serves excellent Rwandan coffee and lunch, a good spot to decompress after the heavy exhibitions.
- No photography is allowed inside the permanent exhibition halls, but the outdoor memorial gardens and Genocide Archive are fine to photograph.
- Plan your visit for the first floor exhibition first, then the children's room, then the outdoor gardens and mass grave plaques last.
- If emotions run high, step into the reflection room near the exit where counselors are available and no one rushes you.
