Rychlá fakta: Sali fino al settimo piano e vedrai ancora i fori delle travi in legno che un tempo sostenevano i pavimenti, un vero scheletro di pietra a cielo aperto. Nessuno sa con certezza chi la costruì: forse re Parakramabahu, forse mercanti cinesi, forse un tempio induista dimenticato.
Zajímavosti: A differenza delle altre strutture di Polonnaruwa, questa torre a sette piani ha una forma piramidale unica nello Sri Lanka, quasi come un pagoda cinese cresciuta in terra cingalese. Prova a metterti al centro del lato nord: da lì l'intera struttura si allinea perfettamente con l'alba del solstizio d'estate, un'allineamento astronomico che pochi visitatori notano.
