When you are looking for things to do in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, you should start at the Khast Imam Complex, where a library houses a 1200-year-old Quran. Then go to the Chorsu Bazaar with over 300 stalls under a blue dome. End the day at Independence Square with its 30-meter-tall monument.
1. Khast Imam Complex
Experience one of Islam's holiest scriptures, a 1,350-year-old Quran written on goatskin. Walk between blue-domed mosques, the scent of freshly pressed spices, and listen to Quran recitation in the old town.

Rychlá fakta: The museum houses over 250,000 objects spanning more than 200,000 years of history, from the Stone Age to the present day. Here you will find one of the world's finest collections of Sogdian art and an original 2,000-year-old mummy from the Taklamakan Desert.
Zajímavosti: In the museum's gold room hangs a 2,300-year-old gold belt from the Sogdian culture, so finely carved that you can see every single hair in the lion manes. The collection of Zoroastrian clay tablets with Sogdian script is the largest outside of Iran and offers a unique insight into a bygone trading culture that few know about.
3. Tashkent TV Tower
Enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Tashkent from 375 meters high. Take the elevator up and admire the view from the observation deck or dine at the revolving restaurant.

4. Museum of Applied Arts
Step into a fairy-tale palace filled with colors, gold and craftsmanship that takes your breath away. Walls, ceilings and floors tell stories of Silk Road artisan traditions.
Rychlá fakta: Over 4,000 items of Uzbek handicrafts are found in a former diplomatic palace from the 1930s. Hand-carved wooden ceilings, colorful suzani embroideries, and glazed ceramics from all over Central Asia fill every corner.
Zajímavosti: The entrance hall is a work of art in itself: every single centimeter of the ceiling is covered in hand-carved and gold-painted wooden panels, created by masters from Khiva and Bukhara. Pay attention to the secret inner courtyard with a fountain surrounded by blue glazed tiles, where the sound of water blends with the scent of jasmine in spring.
5. Tashkent Botanical Garden
Step into a quiet, lush world in the middle of Tashkent's busy streets. Here you can wander among rare Central Asian trees, fragrant rose gardens and mirror-still ponds.

Mixed feelings. Loved the Soviet architecture and wide streets, but felt like 2 full days was enough to see everything worth seeing.
The heat in July was brutal. Great city but go in spring or fall unless you enjoy sweating through every meal.
Skip the expensive tourist plov near the main square. Walk to Besh Qozon inside Chorsu Bazaar. Same dish, half the price, better quality.
Most museums close for lunch around 1-3pm. Plan around this or you'll show up to locked doors like I did twice.
Best plov of my life at a random chaikhana near Chorsu Bazaar. Tashkent doesn't get enough credit for its food scene.
