Kapana Creative District

Best time to visit

Late afternoon on weekdays, when there are fewer people and the sun casts the most beautiful shadows on the murals. Avoid Saturdays, when there are the most visitors.

Budget tips

Entry is completely free, and most studios offer tours with no obligation to buy. Bring cash for unique souvenirs, as some artists do not accept cards.

About

Quick facts: A four-hundred-meter-long street in the old town center boasts over 30 art studios and workshops. Every year, more than 200 street murals are created here by local and international artists.

Highlights: In the midst of the afternoon heat, a five-meter-high waterfall made of fiberglass rises, powered by solar energy, creating a rainbow over the cobblestones. On the first Friday of each month, hundreds of candles are lit in the courtyards, and local musicians take over every corner with their instruments.

Insider tips

  • Wear comfortable shoes, as the cobblestones are uneven and you will walk several kilometers between studios.
  • Take the best photos of the murals during the golden hour, when the light highlights the textures of the colors.
  • Skip the main street and get lost in the side courtyards, where the most surprising wall paintings are.
  • Bring a bottle of water with you, as it can be very muggy in the narrow streets in summer.
